In Ephesians 5, marriage is equated with the relationship of Jesus to the church- His bride. It is of course a mystery to us. We know that Jesus has never lost one out of His hand (John 17:12). He will never leave us or forsake us.
Yet many Christians are walking away from each other. They are willing to put each other in the dire jeopardy of living the rest of their lives in sin. For the only possible reason for divorce is given by Jesus in Matthew chapter 5. This reason is adultery, and no other. Let no man put asunder what God has joined together.
Remarriage for Christians can be a very dangerous business. There are many living in adultery according to God's Word. No pastor, no court can overrule the Word of God. If God said it, it is. He says what He means, He means what He says.
How little love can a man have for his children that he can abandon them. A man that does not provide for his family is worse than an infidel. (1Timothy 5:8) A father has the responsibility to raise his children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. All men will answer to God for every word spoken and I believe the first question will be; "How goes it with your children?"
It can take eighteen months to get a divorce. It takes three days to get married. Outside of salvation, marriage is the biggest decision you will ever make. People who hardly know each other are getting married everyday. Most of them have the blessings of their local church. There is a great need for Christian counseling for those who wish to marry and for the couples in the church. All churches should have ongoing ministries for their members. Don't wait until it's too late to save marriages.
